Mozambique
Mozambique is in a remarkable phase of rewilding. Gorongosa National Park, the premier safari destination in the 1960’s is thriving again as big cats make a comeback, local people reconnect with the park and the landscape heals. In the turquoise isles of Bazaruto, conserving the dugong and turtles bring stability to the entire marine ecosystem under the stewardship of African Parks. The vast tidal flats are best viewed from the helicopter on transfer to the islands! The newly established Maputo National Park bordering South Africa is a tapestry of ocean, lakes, forest and savanna with excellent accommodation options for families especially. Smaller parks lie Zinave are being brought back to life making for a wide variety of safari options.
You can combine a safari from other Southern African countries with the beaches of Mozambique or do it all within the country. A large part of the country to the north is currently less accessible but has many historic and wild locations that may in future complete the Mozambique picture.
