Rwanda
Rwanda is a small country packing a big punch. Just 30 years after one of the world’s most grim genocides, Rwanda has rebuilt itself. As a visitor you may visit memorials and get glimpses into the horrific past. It is part of being able to marvel at and enjoy visiting the country as you see it today.
Many visitors will head straight to the Volcanoes National Park to experience the trekking and time with endangered Mountain Gorillas. With a great selection of world class luxury lodges and down-to-earth local options, spending time in the forested Virunga mountain landscape is a treat. The Nyungwe Forest is both a World Heritage Site and the largest conserved Afromontane forest. Here the endemic birds and primate varieties are exceptional. Some trail fitness is ideal to make the most of the trails on offer. Both Nyungwe and Rwanda’s only savanna park, Akagera, are managed by an African Parks and government partnership. These are great conservation stories resurrecting landscapes which now protect chimpanzees, rhinos, lions and more. Add in a vibrant cultural scene in the capital Kigali and you have the makings of an excellent one stop safari in the heart of Africa.
