Uganda
To summarise the Pearl of Africa in a paragraph or two is impossible. No other country offers such a rich diversity of primates including Mountain Gorillas and Chimpanzees as well as classic savannah species in a variety of national parks.
Lake Victoria and the River Nile are grand water features to explore whether for adrenalin adventures or in search of the prehistoric Shoebill. The forests are a haven for incredible birdlife, reason to enough to visit. The highlights are centred around the Bwindi Impenetrable and Kibale Forests for primate trekking. There are also other parks away from the crowds which are great for gorillas and chimpanzees too. Outside of national parks, a number of community-run places provide opportunities to meet local people and see excellent wildlife.
The iconic parks of Queen Elizabeth and Murchison Falls are the places to see lions, leopards and elephants in the wild. For experienced safari-goers, further from the mainstream, the picturesque Kidepo National Park and Pian Upe National Park are both being restored to former glory. With a range of accommodation from functional to world class, there is something for everyone. Using scheduled charters one can access most parts of the country, but Uganda is still an excellent country to see by road!
